The Black Keys - Q with Jian Ghomeshi

13691_black-keys (1)

Today The Black Keys were on Q with Jian Ghomeshi on CBC Radio 1. The Ohio duo is set to release El Camino in the coming days and Jian had a chance to sit down with Dan and Patrick. You can head over to the Q Website and listen to the stream at your leisure.
Also, check out The Keys on the topic of Selling Out below.

I will leave you with this great quote from Patrick Carney on the topic of selling their tracks for use on commercials and the like.

"Where else are they gonna hear it? Would you rather be surrounded by Nickleback and Fergie or whatever? If you're gonna have to be exposed to music randomly, I would rather it be our music" - Patrick Carney

The Black Keys @ The Corral in Calgary, Alberta

5022827.bin (Credit to the Calgary Herald for this picture from last nights show)

Myself and my good friend Davey were two of the very fortunate people that were able to attend the sold out Black Keys show last night at the Corral. Hear is a quick synopsis of the show for those of you that couldn't make the show. The Corral as a venue is questionable at best, and little small for The Black Keys but it did create a pretty awesome atmosphere. Anyway, Cage the Elephant opened the show at about 8:15 pm with six song set. We enjoyed "Shake Me Down", "Around My Head", and "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked" and they gave it 110% but the sound quality just wasn't there. But with clean audio, I would definitely check them out again.

The Black Keys, not only did what Cage the Elephant couldn't do with the venue, they made The Corral their Bitch. Dan Auerbach and Patrick Carney understand what live music is and adapted to concrete tomb that is The Corral. They opened their set with four songs from albums including Attack & Release ranging to Rubber Factory. The show had pretty simple set up with Auerbach on the right of the stage, Carney perched up on the left and some average lighting until it revolutionized with bright light lettering of "THE BLACK KEYS" and some art house style video. This for all intents and purposes made it feel like a damn good rock concert. This continued as they crushed performances of Brothers tunes including "Howlin' for You", "Next Girl", "Everlasting Light", "She's Long Gone" and of course "Tighten Up". They finished up the show with encore performances of "Sinister Kid" and "Your Touch" from Magic Potion which was an epic closer. The one and only criticism of the Keys was their set was a little under an hour and half which could have been longer, offering maybe some tunes from Chulahoma and little more from the other albums. Or is this me asking for to much of good thing? Nonetheless, The Black Keys were one of the best live acts I have ever seen and if you ever get a chance to see them, there is no excuse worthy of missing The Black Keys.

The Black Keys- Howlin' for You

The_Black_Keys_409977b

In the latest video by The Black Keys, it looks almost as if Quentin Tarantino directed it, although it features the works of Chris Marrs Piliero. The video plays a trailer for what would be the best worst action movie ever called "Howlin' for You". "Alexa Wolff, a sexy assassin with a troubled past, unknowingly falls in love with the man who killed her father. He is not her first love, though. Two other men came before (Auerbach and Carney). But they would not have her. Now, all grown up with an appetite for revenge, Alexa’s leaving a trail of bloody corpses and broken hearts in her wake." It's pretty fantastic so head over to IMDb to check it out HERE.

Hello 2011 and The Black Keys on SNL

Hello 2011.

Spencer and I were recently on our Christmas break from school so we also took a break from Blue Sloth but we're back for the new year and we're excited to see what 2011 brings. We have some new plans for designing and improving the blog this year and if any of you out there have any suggestions we are definitely open to them. Just fire us an email and let us know (contact info is in the side bar). Hope all of you had a great break from whatever is it you do and if you like what you're seeing and hearing here be sure to put us under your favorites and come check back every couple days.

We know we promised our year end lists to be done... however, they're not. Now that Spencer is back in Lethbridge and I am in Calgary you will have to wait a couple more weeks before you can see our picks. It's worth the wait.

Now back to the music.

Even though this happened weeks ago and some of you may have seen this performance already I still feel that it deserves a post. The Black Keys were on SNL and gave a great performance of two track off their newest album Brothers. Check out Howlin For You and Tighten Up Below via The Audio Perv.
