American Songwriter's Top 50 Albums of 2011

top50image20111

The Christmas season means a lot of good things like eggnog, World Junior hockey, Christmas parties, and music (I recommend A Very She and Him Christmas). Also, it is the season of year end lists for albums of the year. I would like to share with you the first one I have came across from American Songwriter Magazine. Keep in mind the albums in this list were judged primarily on the songwriting abilities of the artists. You may be surprised by where artists like Bon Iver, Fleet Foxes and Feist ended up and where one of my recent discoveries, a band called Dawes were featured. Head over to American Songwriter Magazine to check out the list.

Oh ya, I couldn't just mention a new band without giving you a song to check out, so here is "A Little Bit Of Everything" from the Dawes album Nothing is Wrong.

Here are a couple new singles from upcoming ablums of Cass McCombs' Wit's End and My Morning Jacket's Circuital . Cass is an amazing, well respected songwriter that will just get you hooked and My Morning Jacket are Southern indie rock veterans who have inspired bands such as Fleet Foxes. Anyway check out the tracks.

The front of man of Fleet Foxes, Robin Pecknold has released three new songs available for download HERE. He released this statement,"One is a duet with my friend Ed Droste from the amazing band Grizzly Bear, one is just a new solo jam, and one is a cover." He also went on to say that these songs are not Fleet Foxes songs, but he wanted to get them out there. Check em out.

Sweet Sweet Music

Looking at the end of 2010 and Early 2011 there are some largely anticipated albums coming out.

Firstly there is Fleet Foxes, with their last release dating back to 2008. Their last album floored me so I am excited to see what they come up with this time around. Robin Pecknold (front man for Fleet Foxes) told Pitchfork there will “definitely” be an album in 2010. He also mentioned the new songs are “less poppy” and “a little less upbeat” than on the last collection. Considering how the album still is not out it looks like it will be a stocking stuffer if anything.

Here's some videos of what's coming:

Secondly

It has been over four and a half years now since The Strokes put out an album. Thankfully, Julian Casablancas broke that silence this year with the release of his solo album and talks of the Strokes going into the studio. In a recent interview it sounds like the album release date will probably land on March 11, 2011. I am still very excited to see what the group that was met with so much critical acclaim upon their first release, being hailed by some as the “saviors of rock and roll” has to offer.
