Lana Del Rey - "Video Games"

Ever since I heard Lana Del Ray on Sirius XMU last week, her song "Video Games" is on repeat in my head. I can't help to get a sense of Lykke Li influence in Del Rey's styling, however she makes the song all her own. Check out the video for "Video Games" above and check into Blue Sloth for more updates on her upcoming album. But for now you can look forward to a "Video Games" 7" with a B-side titled "Blue Jeans" due out October 9 digitally, and on limited edition vinyl October 10.

Bon Iver and James Blake Collaboration

Indie super producer James Blake has teamed up with Justin Vernon from Bon Iver for a new track. It features a mostly auto-tuned Vernon, sounding more circa For Emma, Forever ago than his new self-titled Bon Iver effort. In this case, I think it's a good thing. Nonetheless, it is definitely growing on me and James Blake sure does know how to make a track. Check out the song below.

Video: Bon Iver - "Holocene"

If you are follower of indie music on the interweb, there is a good chance you have seen the video for Bon Iver's "Holocene", which is, in my opinion the best song from the new self-titled album. Check out the video below which features a little boy exploring the vast and breathtaking landscape of Iceland.

Kris Ellestad - No Man Is Land

3120381092-1

Usually when I am in the car and if my iPod isn't playing I listen to the University of Calgary's radio station CJSW. The stations frequency is at 90.9 FM or online at http://cjsw.com/ and it plays a staggering wide variety of music. Some of the time I don't like what I hear, while other times I am impressed.
Today there was a live performance on the air by a Calgary artist by the name of Kris Ellestad. He has recently released a new album called No Man Is Land which contains 15 songs. Now here is the good part... He is playing a show in Calgary tomorrow night at the Central United Church for $5. If anyone is in Calgary tomorrow with nothing to do I suggest you go and support this guy!

Here is a link to his BandCamp so you can get an idea of him... for those of you who aren't that ambitious here are a couple tracks for convincing

The first is called Hour of the Rat.

Givers - Tiny Desk Concert @ NPR

One of my favorite series is the unequivocal NPR's "Tiny Desk Concert", that features many fantastic indie bands playing three to four songs shoved behind a tiny desk somewhere amongst the NPR studios. Past Tiny Desk Concerts include Blue Sloth favorites such as The Tallest Man on Earth and Andrew Bird. Over the summer NPR had the Givers in to play a few highlights from there debut album In Light, which if you have not listen to yet, frankly, get your head in the game. It features the brilliant "Up, Up, Up" (included in the show). Furthermore I couldn't resist posting past Tiny Desk Concerts of two of most sensational singer songwriters, Adele and Josh Ritter. Enjoy, and for more of this incredible series head over to NPR.

Givers - "Meantime", "Up, Up, Up", "Atlantic".

Adele = "Someone Like You", "Chasing Pavements", "Rolling in the Deep".

Josh Ritter - "Temptations of Adam", "Lark", "Rattling Locks", "Pale Blue Eyes", "Kathleen".

As Bryce elaborated to earlier this week, Canadian (Calgarian even) singer songwriter Feist new album Metals is due out October 4th of this year. The first single "How Come You Never Go There" was released today. I'm really enjoying the blues feeling to the track.
